Medical News

I found out today that I have gallstones. While this might sound icky and painful to some of you, I am very happy to finally know why I have been getting sick after I eat. Horrible, wracking, agonizing pain should not come after every meal.

According to my doctor's office, I will require surgery. The surgeon's office has already scheduled my first appointment and now I have to play the waiting game until then.

Wish me luck. I'll post more updates when I can.

New Beginnings

I have spent most of my day here at the Women in Technology Conference 2010 in Bloomington. The IMU is a beautiful backdrop for networking with all of these amazing women! I have learned so much about just the idea of using our unique female personalities to find, or make, jobs in the Tech world. So far I have been enamoured watching and listening to "Intellagirl" Sarah Smith-Robbins, and her presentation Geek Girls Unite!: Leveraging technology to claim your power and ideas. She has so much to say on girl geek power and how we should be proud to be geeks. :-)

The group panel discussion was informative and necessary. I heard from women who are in the IT trenches every day and how they have carved their own niche. It was inspirational to hear that everyone has problems and difficulties in dealing with the world of technology. Not only equipment malfunctions but gender bias and flat-out self-stabotage. I think that all of us, male or female, do it to ourselves. We convince ourselves that we are not good enough and by doing that we make it impossible to break out of our comfort zone.
